All for Annandale!

About Annandale

Annandale Military Academy is the fictitious school which provides the setting for the Thaumaturge of Annandale Series: Volume I, Rough Magicke, Volume II, Like a Noise in Dreams, and Volume III, The Advent of the Winter Queen. Volumes I and II were originally published in print by Unlimited Publishing in 2005 and 2015: all three are now available from the Marmont Press in an omnibus volume, Treble Magicke (2025).

The County of Wabana and the town of Annandale were the Hoosier author Meredith Nicholson’s revisions of Marshall County, Indiana, and the town of Culver, in his novels The House of a Thousand Candles (Grosset & Dunlap, 1905) and Rosalind at Redgate (1907).  I have taken the liberty of replacing Nicholson’s girls school (St. Agatha’s) with a military academy in closer keeping with the real town’s most famous institution. The former book also introduced the eccentric early citizen, John Marshall Glenarm, who plays a role in the history of AMA.
